It’s
the Gold Standard for eliminating spider veins.
It is relatively painless and can be performed
on an outpatient basis. It's Sclerotherapy!
Treatment at LaserPro Medical
A concentrated saline solution
is injected into the spider vein with a microfine
needle. The solution washes over the tiny cells, which
line the inner wall of the blood vessel, dries
them out, and causes them to shrink. Within a
few weeks, the blood vessels disappear by a natural
cleaning of the body. The work of carrying the
blood is shifted to other healthy blood vessels
nearby, consequently improving circulation
What
do I need to know about the procedure?
Sclerotherapy is very effective spider vein treatment.
10 to 40 veins may be treated in one session.
When spider veins are interconnected, injection
into one site may fade the entire network; otherwise,
individual injections are necessary. Sometimes
several sessions are needed to clear the veins
satisfactorily.
What
about Laser treatments?
Sclerotherapy can be used in conjunction with
laser treatment to maximize the clearing of the
veins and to minimize the side-effects.
What
is so special about Dr. Vu’s treatments?
Successful results are very technique dependent
and needs to be done often by the performing physician.
Dr. Vu's expertise performing Sclerotherapy on
spider veins of the legs has led her to improve
the results by using microfine needles and light
magnification. Consequently, she is extraordinarily
accurate at delivering the solution into the vein.
In her consideration for patient comfort, Dr.
Vu adds anesthetic into her solution, making her
Sclerotherapy a very well tolerated procedure.
The vast majority of patients having this procedure
are highly satisfied with their results.
How
long do the results last?
The veins that resolve with Sclerotherapy are
gone forever; some people never have trouble with
their veins again.
What
exactly are spider veins?
Spider veins are formed by the dilation of a small
group of blood vessels located close to the surface
of the skin. Although they can appear anywhere
on the body, spider veins are most commonly found
on the face and legs. They usually pose no health
hazard but may produce a dull aching in the legs
after prolonged standing.
Who develops
spider and varicose veins?
More than 20 percent of women have some form of
varicose condition. The exact cause of spider
and varicose veins is unknown, although heredity,
pregnancy and hormonal changes are believed to
be factors contributing to both conditions. Four
times more women than men have varicose veins.
Can Sclerotherapy
prevent spider veins?
Although Sclerotherapy works for existing spider
veins, it does not prevent new ones from developing.
Wearing medical grade compression hose can prevent
spider veins.
What happens after the
treatment?
We recommend walking but avoiding strenuous exercise
for 24 hours. No hot tubs / baths for 3 days.
Medical grade compression hose worn for 7 days
around the clock, followed by three weeks during
the day, is recommended since it increases the
effectiveness of Sclerotherapy. The treated blood
vessels disappear over a period of one to two
weeks.
Are there any side effects
following treatment?
During the many years that Dr. Vu has performed
Sclerotherapy, she has never had any significant
side effects occur. Patients return to their normal
activities immediately. Possible side effects
are minimal and usually transient. Temporary reactions
can include a slight swelling of the leg or foot,
minor bruising and itching.
